RODEO!!!!

I love the rodeo. The excitement of never knowing who will stay on for 8 seconds or if the next rider will break a bone. Its awe inspiring to see the men and animals go at it.

This past weekend was the annual Red Bluff Rodeo. Its been going on since 1921, and the first one was actually held in Los Molinos. This year was my first time going to the one here in Red Bluff and let me tell you I wasn't disappointed!!

It started off with a airplane jumper floating down with the American flag, it was so majestic tears came to my eyes. [side note: all rodeos are very patriotic] Then came the bucking broncos. Its amazing to see those men take such a beating. One guy got kicked square in the chest after being thrown, another was nearly trampled, and another one broke a leg. Several cowboys made it all the way to 8 seconds on the broncos. O them cowboys :)

There's one event called Wild Ride. Cowboys dress up as different silly characters and see who can last the 8 seconds on the broncos. Its so funny to see these big macho men dress up as Elvis, a pickle, and even as a pink rodeo fairy (wings and all). There was also bull dogging and team roping and women's barrel racing but somehow we didn't take any picture of them.

But the really excitement came right before the bull riding. The workers were getting the different bulls into the pens to be ridden and all of a sudden...one got into the stands!!!! This big huge 2000lb bull jumped an 8 foot gate and then a 6 foot gate. It went into the stands and unfortunately 6 people were injured. The spectators were swifted to the hospital, none with serious injuries thank goodness. Once the bull went into the stands it calmed right down and didn't fight when the cowboys took him away.

It was a wonderful day filled with family and excitement and I hope I'm up here for next year's rodeo.

How much fun was that! I think I would like to go to one some day! How scary for the people who got hurt. Thinking they were going to see a bull well they got to see one way too close! Can't wait to see you next month!
